Is liver cleansing with Karsil effective: reviews and description

What is the liver and what do they mean by cleansing it?

The vital gland performs dozens of functions in the body. The liver consists of eight segments, which make up two lobes - right and left. Functionally active cells that form the basis of the organ (parenchyma) have a lobular structure.

Liver functions:

  • neutralizes poisons, toxins, drugs, ethanol and its breakdown products, converting them into easily removable ones;
  • regulates carbohydrate metabolism;
  • replenishes and stores glycogen, vitamins and microelements;
  • converts and modifies nutrients for the body's needs;
  • participates in the transport of proteins and hormones;
  • regulates lipid metabolism;
  • synthesizes cholesterol;
  • produces bile and promotes its discharge;
  • serves as a temporary storage place for blood, which is released into the general bloodstream in extreme situations, under heavy loads.

With prolonged exposure to toxins, drugs that have a damaging (hepatotoxic) effect on the liver, ethanol, and a sedentary lifestyle, the functions of the organ are disrupted, including stagnation of bile. In such cases, medications are indicated to cleanse the organ of harmful substances.

When waste and toxins accumulate in the liver, it ceases to fully perform its functions and fills with fat. Cells begin to release harmful substances into the bloodstream, which leads to the development of other diseases.

Preparations for cleansing the liver of waste and toxins help restore its functions and improve the general condition of all other systems and the body as a whole.

Why is liver cleansing performed?

The liver filters the body's blood and cleanses it of harmful substances. This is the detoxification function of the liver. Neutralized toxic substances are excreted in bile. When the outflow of bile is impaired, its stagnation occurs, which leads to inflammation of the gallbladder and deposition of waste products, metabolic products in hepatocytes (liver cells).

Cleaning should be carried out in conjunction with cleaning the biliary tract and intestines. This helps prevent toxins from being reabsorbed into the blood. For cleaning, medications are used that provide:

  • protection of hepatocytes;
  • restoration of damaged hepatocytes;
  • stimulation of bile formation;
  • improved bile excretion;
  • removal of toxins from the intestines.

For this purpose, drugs are used to cleanse the liver, bile ducts and intestines:

  • hepatoprotectors (“Essentiale Forte”, “Antral”, “Karsil”, “Berlition”);
  • detoxification drugs (sodium thiosulfate);
  • choleretic drugs (“Holosas”, “Sorbitol”, “Bonjigar”);
  • drugs that remove toxins from the intestines (Magnesia, activated carbon);
  • complex drugs (“Darsil”, “Gepabene”, “Galstena”, “Hepacept”).

Many complex preparations contain plant extracts and have choleretic and hepatoprotective effects. Biological supplements such as Ovesol also help cleanse the liver. A good effect in cleansing the liver is given by the medical procedure - tubage.

What drugs can cleanse the liver?

The largest gland in the human body performs a number of important functions, one of which is the neutralization of xenobiotics (foreign chemicals entering the body from the external environment or with consumed food). The detoxification processes occurring in the liver consist of a two-phase chemical transformation, the mechanism of which is represented by the following stages:

  • oxidation and reconstruction of a new structure of incoming substances (detaching and attaching electrons);
  • Conjugation is the addition of an element to newly formed substances.

A feature of the liver that distinguishes it from all other organs is the ability to regenerate, but restoration of the original volume of the organ occurs due to an increase in the size of cells, and not due to the creation of new ones. Regeneration is necessary in case of severe toxic damage or injury, when the ability to produce the amount of enzymes required for normal life is lost.

To stimulate recovery processes and normalize enzyme activity, medications are being developed to cleanse the liver, which, depending on the mechanism of action, are classified into two groups:

Hepatoprotectors Choleretic agents
Cholekinetics Choleretics
Prescription of drugs for liver cleansing Activation of the activity of hepatocytes (liver parenchyma cells), restoration of the cell membrane, protection of the organ from harmful effects Increased tone and motor activity of the gallbladder, decreased tone of the bile duct Increased amount of secreted bile, increased fermentation of cholates, acceleration of bile movement
Operating principle Stimulation of intracellular protein metabolism, acceleration of the formation of phospholipids in damaged hepatocytes Bile enters the duodenum as a result of a reflex increase in the secretion of cholecystokinin due to irritation of receptors in the intestinal mucosa Increased formation of bile and bile acids is due to stimulation of the reflex response of the intestinal mucosa
Indications for use Alcohol, drug damage, cirrhosis, fatty degeneration, cirrhosis, hepatitis, hepatosis Diseases of the liver and biliary tract of a chronic nature, cholecystitis, cholangitis Inflammatory diseases, biliary dyskinesia
Drugs Hepatrin, Ovesol, Karsil, Milk Thistle, Berlition Holagol, Sorbitol, Drotaverine, Atropine Allohol, Cholenzym, Decholin, Cyqualon, Osalmid, Gepar

In scientific terminology, the designation “hepatoprotectors” is not used due to the lack of evidence confirming their clinical effectiveness, therefore there is no generally accepted classification of these drugs. The pharmacological industry produces more than 1000 types of various drugs with hepatoprotective action, which, depending on the composition, are conventionally divided into:

  • herbal medicines - Gepabene, Phosphogliv, Geparsil, Liposil, Hepatotransit, Bonjigar;
  • synthetic preparations for cleansing the liver (based on ursodeoxycholic acid or acetylcysteine) - Urdoxa, Ursohol, Ursoliv;
  • essential phospholipids – Essliver, Gepagard;
  • products containing vitamins and amino acids - Ornithine, Methionine, Ademethionine.

With severe intoxication of the body, the liver experiences increased stress. To quickly carry out detoxification, sorbents are used - medications that help cleanse the body of toxins and free radicals. The purpose of using these drugs is to urgently eliminate harmful substances and reduce the load on organs.

Antral

How to choose liver cleansing drugs

The effectiveness of hepatoprotective drugs as a drug panacea for various liver diseases has not been proven, so the choice of drugs must be agreed with a doctor. Many medications for liver cleansing have contraindications and side effects, which makes them inapplicable as medications for self-medication.

Before purchasing hepatoprotectors or choleretic drugs, you should carefully study the instructions for their use. If you experience unpleasant sensations or feel worse while taking medications, you should immediately stop taking them and seek medical help - ignoring disturbing symptoms can lead to dangerous complications.

The choice of drug should be based on the problem that is planned to be solved with the help of this remedy. Complaints about certain symptoms cannot be independently interpreted as a diagnosis. Liver cleansing is a complex procedure that must be monitored at all stages and its purpose is determined based on the real need, which is confirmed only by the results of the diagnostics.

To cleanse the liver and gallbladder

If the patient has a confirmed diagnosis of cholecystitis, duodenitis, hepatitis (cholestatic) and other diseases of the liver and bile ducts, tubage is prescribed. The purpose of this procedure is to facilitate the process of bile excretion, which is achieved by gently washing the bile ducts. Liver cleansing with medications is effective using sorbents:

  • Magnesium sulfate (magnesia) - magnesium salt of sulfuric acid has an antispasmodic effect, promotes the outflow of bile by irritating the walls of the duodenum;
  • Sorbitol (glucite) is a rehydrant, promotes the elimination of toxins, and has choleretic and cholecystokinetic effects.

To cleanse toxins

Cleansing the liver with medications helps get rid of accumulated waste and toxins. For this purpose, it is recommended to use hepatoprotective and choleretic agents based on medicinal plants. Drug treatment must be combined with proper diet and enemas. The following drug groups are used for detoxification:

  • sorbents – Activated carbon, Sorbitol, Magnesia;
  • choleretic agents – Holosas, Ovesol;
  • hepatoprotectors – Karsil, Bonjigar.

After taking medications

Restoring the normal functioning of the filtration organs after drug therapy using highly active, but at the same time highly toxic drugs, consists of taking hepatoprotectors and sorbents. Cleansing will be effective using drugs belonging to the following groups:

  • herbal products – Gepabene, Karsil, Ovesol;
  • medications containing ursodeoxycholic acid - Ursosan, Urdoxa;
  • preparations containing essential phospholipids - Essentiale, Essliver, Phosphogliv.

For healthy liver

To reduce the negative impact of external unfavorable factors on the filtration organs, it is necessary to regularly cleanse the body. Among the preparations for cleansing the liver exposed to harmful factors (alcohol, fatty foods, stress, environmental influences, etc.), it is recommended to use complex action products. You can clean your internal organs using such means as:

  • phospholipid hepatoprotectors – Rezalut, Essliver, Essentiale;
  • products based on ademetionine – Heptral;
  • herbal medicines – Holosas, Karsil, fume extract.

Review of medication reviews

Strict adherence to the doctor’s instructions regarding the dosage regimen and duration of drug therapy is the main rule. Reviews of drugs for the treatment of the liver and pancreas are positive in cases where the patient takes them strictly according to the instructions, taking into account contraindications.

Patients report the following improvements in their health:

  • digestion improves;
  • headaches go away;
  • the unpleasant taste in the mouth goes away;
  • inflammation, rashes and irritation on the skin disappear or decrease;
  • there is a surge of energy.

Choleretic drugs

Drug cleansing of the liver can also be carried out using choleretic drugs. They are designed to enhance bile production, improve digestion, and dilate the hepatic and bile ducts .
But it will not be possible to achieve complete detoxification with their help. Such medications are used as part of complex therapy. There are two groups of such drugs:

  1. Chokinetics. They help to increase the tone of the gallbladder and relax the bile ducts, which leads to increased outflow of bile. The most common drugs in this group are: magnesium sulfate, cholecystokinin, pituitrin, sorbitol.
  2. Choleretics. Drugs that stimulate active bile production. The most common of them is allochol. The product is available in tablet form. They are taken exclusively after meals. The medication is prohibited for use in cases of peptic ulcers, blockage of the biliary tract, inflammatory liver diseases, and cholelithiasis .

Separately, we can highlight choleretic drugs that cleanse the liver, which are produced on the basis of plant components. These include: holosas, tanaflon, urolesan, solaren and others. They must be drunk in strict accordance with the instructions.

Liver cleansing with sorbitol

Sorbitol is becoming one of the most popular remedies. With its help, you can simply and painlessly rid the liver of accumulated harmful substances . Restoration and cleansing of the liver is carried out as follows:

  1. Three days before the procedure, it is necessary to exclude all harmful foods from the diet: smoked foods, fried and fatty foods, sweets, alcoholic drinks. Potatoes are also prohibited. Give preference to a vegetarian menu. Try to drink more apple juice. It enhances the process of bile formation.
  2. Try to stress less. This applies to both physical and mental stress.
  3. On the day of cleansing, do an enema in the morning to cleanse the intestines.
  4. In the evening, prepare a solution of the drug. To do this, dissolve two tablespoons of sorbitol in 100 ml of water.
  5. Around 8:00 pm, lie down in bed and apply an electric heating pad to your right side. Take your medicine.
  6. The first signs of liver cleansing will appear a couple of hours after taking the drug.

The next morning you need to do a cleansing enema. The procedure can be repeated only after three weeks. Before undertaking this procedure, consult your doctor .

Cleansing with holosas

Holosas will help cleanse the liver of accumulated toxins. This is the best choleretic drug, which is made from herbal ingredients . The main active ingredient is rosehip extract. It has not only detoxifying, but also anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory, diuretic, hepatoprotective and choleretic effects. A medicinal product based on this drug is prepared as follows:

  • Steam a glass of raisins and 20 grams of dried senna in a liter of boiling water. Leave the mixture to steep for an hour.
  • Strain the prepared infusion and add 300 ml of holosas into it.
  • The resulting drink should be drunk half a glass before bed. Store any remaining product in the refrigerator. The duration of such therapy is 10 days .
